Stories from an easily distracted, dyslexic creative … The art of reinvention. December 30, 2015
“You can be whatever the hell you want.”
No – I’m not 12 years old, and my parents are not now saying that to me. Although, they actually did when I was 12 … I may or may not have been wearing my fireman’s hat at the time.
So – here you are, and you are sitting around worrying about what everyone else thinks of you??
You don’t need to be negative, and say things like, “I don’t care what anybody thinks … fuck ‘em.”
You only need to care what the people you love think … and if you have chosen these people well, then they are a good measure.
So – what is ‘the art of reinvention?’
It’s about believing that it is never too late to try a different path.
Don’t think of it as ‘starting over’ … how can you start over, when you already have all this experience behind you so far?
Stop worrying about how to ‘tag’ yourself. People ask me what I do, all the time … am I a chef, restaurateur, designer, entrepreneur or CEO? Whatever does all this mean? It means nothing – unless it means something to you.
To me, I’m living a fulfilled life right now, and I’m doing loads of amazing things that actually excite me and make me bounce out of bed everyday.
Can you truly say that?
Well, as I said … it’s never too late …
But I haven’t always felt this way.
So … Let’s start … here and now.
You see, delusions of grandeur are only that … delusions … if you don’t act.
Sometimes a kick in the ass is all that’s needed.
Some people need a shock, say a health scare, or a loved one to pass away.
Some people are just dormant for many years, are unhappy and have no idea how to change it … or even worse … don’t even realize how unhappy they are.
Well, the latter was me.
See, once I changed my thinking, my views, my health and my choices in who I surrounded myself with … everything – and I mean everything – changed dramatically.
I have written about meditation, the art of being ‘present’, the art of being aware … and other papers you can read later … http://www.marchettico.com.au/media/
All my friends that are truly living, and have done this “change of guard” in their lives, write a lot … and I mean a lot. It’s called ‘therapy’. Make it public … or keep it private – it’s your choice.
What always amazes me about human nature, is that we tend to go through life, year after year, being unhappy about what we don’t have … and we forget what we do have. Sure, it’s a bit of a cliché … Yeah, we’ve heard it all before. But it’s 100% true!
So, what is wrong with wanting to be better, healthier, stronger, leaner and live a more fulfilling life?
What’s even more amazing to me is this … when was the last time you :-
Turned off all social media?
Took yourself away from all distractions for a day and just sat quietly on your own – and wrote down the kind of life you really … truly want??
Very few people do this.
Well, most people say they don’t know what they want … they just don’t want what they have. But you actually don’t always have to decide right away. What you do need to do … is start writing. See, when you write, you are opening up to expressing your feelings to yourself … unless of course, you publish it for the world to see … which is what I do. Trust me … once you start … you won’t be able to stop.
Then you write … and write … and BAM … one great idea comes to you on paper and you are like, “THAT’S IT!!! YES … THAT’S WHAT I WANT!”
Then, watch out! You become possessed … and you add more … and more!
Then you realize … you know what you want.
This is it!
Now … let’s do this.
Ok, you put the pen down … and then you go back to your daily life. You slip back into your old routine and do fuck all about it … Why???
Creation comes from imagination; Imagination comes from dreaming.
Reality only comes when you act.
This last year, I have been fortunate enough to have met some of the worlds’ most influential leaders … from Sir Richard Branson, Ester Perel, and unknown, great and well-motivated geniuses that operate behind the scenes. Most of them only really started to make it, to what they really wanted, later in life. So at 43, I’m not too worried about making it as a good human being. That takes daily practice. What I am worried about though, is not trying to be a good human being at all.
Your measure on what success is … is exactly that … your measure.
What does matter more than anything, is PURPOSE & TRYING.
Giving back is way more rewarding than TAKING.
Listening is way more educating than TALKING.
Love and Compassion will … well … CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
Now go on … go do some good … and make it happen.
